Health Insurance Book Author on Buying Health Insurance and Health Insurance Ripoffs

Consumer Health Insurance (Light) Reading

I discovered today the Cavalcade of Risk via the Health Business Blog. There are a few articles that you should read about buying health insurance:

I am glad to see some math that shows the best choice in the article “High Deductible Health Insurance vs. Traditional Plan“. I found from my pharmacy that they give a 10% discount across the board for those without prescription plans, which would certainly alter the math, but not enough to change the result. It’s easy math to figure out the difference if you have a noticeable condition, and a little harder to figure when you have many, many plans and diverse medical expenses. For anyone that wants to compare 99 plans at a time, we’ve got the free Good Deal Spreadsheet.

Also part of the Cavalcade of Risk is an article that can show the perils of forgetting something on a health insurance application. There is a two-year period under which an insurer is very careful to make sure that you didn’t just buy health insurance because you suspected a problem. You and I both know that they are always looking for fraud, and that there are people who are trying to game the system, as well as honest folks who may not feel that they are being treated fairly for honest mistakes. I know that I would be really mad if this happened to me, especially since we have not had a gap in coverage *ever*. Try telling that to an insurer, who is only concerned with what happens while you are on *their* plan.

Two nights ago we posted our 12-Step Process for Buying Health Insurance on our website. Read it, use it, save money and avoid rip-offs. Don’t just believe us, check out comments from our readers.
