|
S hort term health insurance can be useful when you are surprised and have no coverage. It is not a good substitute for a comprehensive health insurance policy. This is because short term health insurance may not cover everything, cannot continue beyond six months to a year if you get sick, and may leave you unable to get comprehensive coverage once you have become ill.
Advantages of short term health insurance:
- You can get coverage in as little as a day.
- You can get coverage up to six months, and sometimes an extension of another six months.
- The premiums are affordable.
- You can prevent gaps of over 63 days that may lead to waiting periods at a new employer.
Disadvantages of short term health insurance:
- Any problems that you may experience while on short term medical will be paid while the short term policy is in place, but may cause difficulty in buying your own comprehensive health insurance policy.
- Coverage dollar and time limits may fall short of your needs if you become ill.
- Features tend to be lean rather than the rich packages available as comprehensive, long term coverage.
